The NETGEAR Orbi Mesh WiFi Add-on Satellite expands the range of the Orbi router by up to 2,000 sq. ft, supposedly providing a smooth online experience. The setup takes up to 6 minutes to sync with the router and the closest devices initially connect with the original satellite before eventually switching to the new satellite. According to the FAQs, the Orbi satellite only works with the Orbi router, which would require setting the Orbi base as a simple WIFI access point that would disable DHCP. This eliminates several Netgear router models that might have been Considered alternative options by potential buyers. Nonetheless, the Orbi satellite is said to deliver the same speed and quality as the Orbi Router. The Ethernet ports also allow for more wired connections in various areas of the house. Most customers confirmed that the setup was easy, with a few who had to reset the satellite to factory settings before pairing it with their router successfully. Feedback on range and strength were mixed, although some customers had to purchase multiple satellites to fully equip their houses. Some customers complained of having to purchase used tech, and there were complaints of devices arriving non-functional.
